What is a Teacher Portfolio and Why is it Important?
A teacher portfolio serves as a collection or record of your professional background and experience as a teacher and documents what you believe about language learning and teaching and how you teach. Items often found in a portfolio include a statement of your philosophy of teaching, your curriculum vitae, examples of materials, activities, or lesson plans you have developed, video clips of your classroom teaching, samples of student, peer, or administrative evaluations of your teaching, and so on. Increasingly, employers are asking for various portfolio elements before, during, and after the interview/hiring process. By putting together an organized, cohesive, reflective, and ever-growing portfolio, you better prepare yourself to show who you are as a teacher and what you offer to a potential employer and to make a good impression.
During our 7-part TiPPS workshop series, we cover some of the basics toward conducting a job/information search, preparing necessary job application materials (effective CVs and cover letters), and gathering examples of you as a teacher (teaching philosophy statement, activities/materials), so you can put your best foot forward for that fateful interview. We cannot possibly cover everything, however, and that is why we include a lot of resources for TiPPS participants or the casual web surfer for further reference. We encourage you to make good use of them and send us any suggestions for additions. Aloha!
My passions change on a weekly to daily bases, but my love of language and story has always stuck with me. My tastes are eclectic in all fields, be it novels, tv shows, movies, comics, video games, etc, but above all else, I’ve always been drawn to a well-crafted story. Some of my favorites include: BOOKS:The. Train more teachers and opening up more teachers’ colleges by 2010 in order to reduce teacher to student ratio up to 1:30 per class. Goal 2: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger. Promote growing of drought resistant and short seasoned crops such as yellow maize as a short-term measure to address on hunger by 2015. I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Chelsea Place (Hartford, CT) in July 2013. The interview was easy. They don’t care who they hire because most people who start, quit a week later. Lack of communication. Very unfriendly and have a condescending attitude.

SOME TEACHER PORTFOLIO EXAMPLES (ELECTRONIC)
The websites that follow were found via an internet search and are designed for you to review and learn from (we’re not saying that any of them are exemplary – nor are we saying that they are not exemplary). As you look at some of these portfolios, here are a few things to look for:
*Do you get a clear idea about this person as a teacher? Are there sufficient and varied documents/examples to give you a fairly full picture?
*Do you get a clear idea about what the teacher believes about learning and teaching and how they carry it out in the classroom?
*Do aspects of teaching that are not included feel like they were omitted as a result of informed choices or as a result of a careless oversight that you feel should be rectified?
See samples in the Gallery section. The site also contains tips for both teachers and students for putting together a portfolio, including tutorials.

Simply having prepared a portfolio and bringing it to the interview sends a positive message. You are demonstrating your commitment, your planning and preparation skills and your organizational ability. All these are key competencies for a successful teacher. Put it in front of you when you sit down for the interview and make sure it is easily accessible.
Be very familiar with your teacher portfolio so that you can access any relevant documents quickly and easily.
Don’t wait for the interviewer to ask to see your portfolio. Be ready to show examples of your work whenever something in your portfolio is relevant to what you are discussing. You are providing proof of what you are telling the interviewer in your answers.
You will create more interest by using your portfolio effectively during the interview. It is far more inspiring for the interviewer to be shown examples of lesson plans and photographs of classroom layout than just to be told about it. It creates better rapport as you transform a question and answer session into a discussion with your show and tell.
Your teacher portfolio should be considered a work-in-progress. You can customize it for the specific job opportunity by adding and removing documents according to the teaching responsibilities of the position.
A good tip is to show your portfolio to colleagues whose opinions you value and ask for feedback. Use this to improve on the content and presentation of your portfolio.Should I create a digital teacher portfolio?
